The term "small intestine roundworms" refers to a genus of parasitic nematode worms known as Ascaris. Humans are affected by one species, Ascaris lumbricoides, which is the source of the illness ascariasis. Ascaris suum, a different species, typically infects pigs. Equine roundworm Parascaris equorum is also known as a "ascarid."

In dung and soil, they lay their eggs. Any organism that consumes plants with the eggs on them becomes infected. The most prevalent helminth infection in people globally is caused by A. lumbricoides, the biggest intestinal roundworm. By impairing nutritional status,[4] impairing cognitive functions, generating tissue reactions like granulomas to larval stages, and inflicting intestinal blockage, which can be lethal, infestation can induce morbidity.

Entamoeba is a genus of Amoebozoa that inhabits the bodies of animals as parasites or commensals.

In St. Petersburg, Russia, Fedor Lösch wrote about the first documented instance of amoebic dysentery. He called the amoeba he saw under a microscope Amoeba coli, but it's unclear if he meant this to be a legitimate taxonomic name or just a descriptive word. For the species Entamoeba coli, which is recognised as a commensal organism, Casagrandi and Barbagallo created the genus Entamoeba.
