Social Media is the most debatable topic in the entire world. Everything in the world has two sides, good and bad, especially things like social media. There are enough reasons to use social media as well as reasons to quit it for a while.
Social Media as a Boon:
Social media helped us make the world a small place. We can get information about anyone and everything sitting anywhere in the world. It has made everything accessible to people. Now, we can work from home and make hundreds of deals just sitting at home. Not only work, but we can also study from home as well. Social media has helped to reunite old friends and relatives. Now, everyone can know the whereabouts of another being with the help of social media. We can now, instantly send a message to another person sitting across the continent in seconds. Not just messages, we can video call them with the help of social media applications. Marketing and advertising have been made easier by social media platforms. Now, everyone with a social media account knows different brands and communicates with them via social media pages. During the pandemic of covid-19, social media has helped a lot of people to come together and donate things for the needy such as oxygen cylinders, food, medicines, etc. Freedom of speech is appreciated here and anyone can share their respective opinions on the platform. The invention of social media can be concluded as a boon in disguise.
Social Media as Bad:
Social media shares everything on the server and maintains no secrecy resulting in a major privacy concern. It is open to all applications. Hence, no privacy at all. Not only just that, but cyberbullying is also a common offense now. Anyone can bully anyone sitting behind a keyboard and the victim would not even identify the real person behind it. Peer pressure, depression, and social anxiety are a few issues that have come up. Social media did connect with a lot of people but also has made the face-to-face interactions backdated. To cope with the fear of missing out, people tend to post fake things as well as do things that they normally would not have just to fit in.
