by dilution, we can converts 17.8M into 0.1M of acetic acid.

Let initial volume of solution is V Litre

x Litre of water is added into the solution to convert its concentration from 17.8M to 0.1M.

now use formula,

M1V1 = M2(V1 + V2)

or, 17.8M × V = 0.1M(V + x)

or, 17.8V = 0.1V + 0.1x

or, 17.7V = 0.1x

or, x = 177V

hence, volume of water should be added 177 times of initial volume of solution.

Answer:

You must add water. The relation between concentration and solution volume is V*C = const.

V1*C1 = V2*C2

C2/C1 = V1/V2

C2/C1 = 0.1/17.8

so V1/V2 = 0.1/17.8

and V2 = 178*V1

If the original volume was V1, you must add water until the new volume is 178 times V1
