They are not a cause of corruption at all. They are actually a result of corruption. Health care became a major victim of corruption under President Nixon, when he and the republicans in congress created HMO’s and sold all the nonprofit hospitals to campaign donors for pennies on the dollar. The commercialization of education has taken longer since many citizens at that time still had a say in their local school districts. With millions of dollars of foundation money and outright grants from billionaires led by the Koch brothers, fake studies were used by the local republican parties to gut public education and switch tax money to the corporate owned charter schools. The republican governors then created common core and forced it on schools at the state level while George Bush gave us “No child left behind” which forced us teachers to educate normal students in the same classroom and at the same speed as the mentally and emotionally disabled.
