common difference, d = a2-a1

where a1 = x+y, a2 = x-y, A3 = x-3y

so,

d = a2-a1

d = x-y-(x+y)

d = x-y-x-y

d = -2y

let's check/verify,

d' = a3-a2

d' = x-3y-(x-y)

d' = x-3y-x+y

d' = -2y

hence, verified

both the common difference are same,

so the common difference is -2y
