The common name of Ethanal is Alcohol.

The formula of Ethanol is CH3CH2OH or C2H50H

Preparation of Ethanol :

• Ethanol is prepared through the process of Fermentation.

• The process in which the glucose is brek down into sugars is called as Fermentation.

• In this process, the water vapour is released into ethene in the presence of P205, tungsten with high temperature.

The reaction takes place as follows :

CH2 = CH2 + H2O ------------> CH3CH2OH

Some important properties of Ethanol :

• Ethanol is colourless liquid with sweet taste.

• Ethanol is pure Alcohol (100%).

• Pure Ethanol boils at 78 degree Celsius.

Uses of Ethanol :

• This is used as ingredient in Alcohol.

• The Ethanol is used in medicines like cough syrups.

• 10% Ethanol in gasoline is a good motar fuel.

• Ethanol is also used in body sprays etc.
