The roots of subaltern history are perceived in Marxist historiography. The performance of the Italian scholar Antonio Gramsci is very significant in demonstrating the facts that history should be recorded starting from the bottom-most classes of people in the community. In fact, subaltern indicates the bottom-most rank. Ranjit Guha an Indian historian performed a significant role in ascertaining subaltern history as an influential academic school of historiography.
