Common salt is NaCl or sodium chloride.
When N.a. and Cl donates and accept electrons NaCl is formed. Thus NaCl forms an iconic bond.
in molten state or in aqueous solution it dissociated to give Na+ and Cl-
thus due to the presence of ions it conducts electricity.
in solid state the ions don't dissociated and thus don't carry electricity.
