SOLUTION:
On addition to water the Na+ ions from NaCl is attracted to the oxygen ions from the water molecules, while the Cl- ions is attracted to the hydrogens' ions of the water molecule. In this way a Sodium chloride breaks up in water forming, Na+ and Cl- ions. And thus we can say that sodium chloride is dissolved in water.
REACTION:
NaCl(solid) + H2O -> Na+(aqueous) + Cl-(aqueous) + H2O
Hope it helps !!!
