It brings people together through many ways. First and foremost, to set up connections you need to set up some sort of a relationship(A/n: because really tell me, have you seen people talk without at least being acquaintted first?)  and to keep these connections going you have to be able to keep up this relation if not improve. It's human nature for people who frequently keep in contact to draw closer to each other. If I were to take a real life example, let us say that Bill and Bob sit next to each other everyday on a school bus, slowly they'd begin to talk to each other and they become acquaintances, then mere friends and soon they become best friends.
