Dear Mr. Connell:
Please consider this letter my official resignation from Pepper Inc, effective immediately. I regret to inform you that I will not be able to come to work tomorrow due to a serious illness in my family.
Two weeks ago, my daughter was diagnosed with a severe chronic illness and has been admitted into the hospital for an unknown period of time. Her doctor advised that she have a caretaker present as much as possible while she undergoes tests and treatments. Since my husband cannot leave his job to care for her and we cannot afford a full-time caretaker, I have no choice but to leave my position and watch over her until she is well enough to be discharged from the hospital.
I understand that my contract states that I must provide a two-week notice of my intent to exit this company, but I ask that you release me from my position under the emergency circumstances at hand. I hope you accept my sincere apology for putting you at an inconvenience by leaving immediately.
