Company xyz wants to make lids for cylindrical cans of two different sizes. For this purpose, they have an unlimited supply of rectangular metal sheets, each of length 70 cm and width 20 cm, from which they are required to cut circular pieces of diameter 10 cm and 20cm, respectively. The requirement of the smaller sized lids (made from the 10cm circular pieces) is 30,000 and of the larger sizes lids (made from the 20cm circular pieces) is 10,000.

Diameter of can = 4

We can fill max. cans when the height is 14 and the base is 20 by 16.

This is because:

if base is 14 by 16 then we can fit a max of 14/4 * 16/4 = 12 cans.

if base is 14 by 20 then we can fit a max of 14/4 * 20/4 = 15 cans.

if base is 20 by 16 or 16 by 20 then we can fit a max of 20/4 * 16/4 = 20 cans.
