hypotonic solution has a lower solute content i.e. it is a dilute solution. When a cell is in a hypotonic solution then it swells as the water content outside the cell is higher and endosmosis occurs

hypertonic solution has a higher concentration of solute i.e. it is a concentrated one. When a cell is in a hypertonic solution it shrinks as the water content inside the cell is more and exosmosis occurs.

eg. salt or sugar solution

isotonic solution has the same water composition as the cell. Thus the size of the cell does not change.

eg.normal saline solution

I hope it helps you!!

Thanks!!
