Acidity of a compound is depend on that how easily it giveup a hydrogen ion .
phenol is more acidic than alcohol .........why?????

when phenol gives up an hydrogen ion it forms phenoxide ion which is stabilized by resonance whereas alcohol give up an hydrogen ion it forms alkoxide ion but alkoxide ion is not stabilized by resonance that's why phenol is more acidic in nature than alcohol.
