Basannio was in great in need of money to he went to Antonio for Sum ducats, but at that point of time he was also suffering from a great tragedy of money as his ships were busy over the ocean..So he was just forced to get the money from any merchant in venice, but no one was as rich who could give him 3000 ducats, So he went to Shylock they second richest merchant of Venice even though he was having bad relationship with him but for the sake of his friend he had to do..

Portia,the noble and pious princess of Belmont was loving bassanio, but he was bounded by her father's three casquet theory which refused her to go against her father's will..
The theory was such that whoever chooses the right casquet would be Portia's Husband..
