Answer:

Phases of Seed Certification

Verification of seed source, class and other requirements of the seed used for raising the seed crop.

Inspection of the seed crop in the field to verify its conformity to the prescribed field standards.

Supervision at post-harvest stages including processing and packing.

The green colour (10 – 15 cm size) producer tag should also be attached to the seed lot along with the certification tag. The certified tagged seed is valid only for a limited period of time, say nine months from the date of seed sample testing for all seed crops.

The purpose of seed certification is to maintain and make available to the public, through certification, high quality seeds and propagating materials of notified kind and varieties so grown and distributed as to ensure genetic identity and genetic purity.
