Rabindranath Tagore is the supreme master in the art of characterization, by his poetic genius. He has portrayed his numberless character in his fiction. His great quality is that his characters are quite symbolic, psychological and realistic. Nobody can surpass him in the art of off character-portrayal. In this novel we have two contrasting group of character brought together in sharp conflict. Gora and Krishna Dayal belongs to the Orthodox Hindu group while Pare Babu his daughter,, Binoy and Andandmoyi belong to the group of the Brahmos and how have a more liberal view of religion.
Binoy- A Foil to Gora:-
In particular the characters of Gora and Binoy are the supplementary as well contrasting to each other. Both these protagonist have their difference star from their outward appearance. Both are sincere friend and value the friendship very highly. Both are idealist and have a keen desire to serve Mother India. Gourmohan is the hero but Binoy is new important character in the novel. Binoy is a peasant young man. He is gently and intelligent. He looks like as show rather than a powerful and original character. when he is placed beside Gora, he looks like the moon by the side of the sun. Binoy is a mild, gently, emotion and poetical young man,. He is far more typical Bengali young man than Gora. He was an orphan and Gora was the only Epson, who took care of Binoy. He is very clever and intelligent.
His Intelligence
Binoy and Gora studies together when they were small boys. In fact, Binoy was cleverer than Gora in his studies. He used to get scholarship for his studies. IT was Binoy who helped Gora in passing examinations, but because of his authoritative nature, Gora was the leader among students. Binoy was shy and lacked confidence. .
