Internal memory is the memory of a computer which is usually in-built within the computer itself. A computer consist of RAM and ROM modules within it which is considered as internal memory.

External memory is a memory device that can be externally connected to the computer. Examples are USB flash drive, CD-ROM, DVD, etc. These are ROM devices.

Internal memory has a finite amount of memory, whereas external memory can be increased easily with addition of storage devices.

Internal memory, once connected to the computer usually cannot be easily removed, however external memory devices can be removed from one computer and connected to another computer easily.
