Joe Thompson, by nature, is a compassionate man. He is loving, caring and generous at heart. He is quite a strong man. On the other hand, he is quite intelligent and he had the brains as to how he could convince his wife into doing things.

He is very kind at heart and he decides to take care of Maggi, the crippled child. He knew his wife would not like doing this but he just knows how to convince her.

Mrs Joe Thompson had never had children, so she is a lady with no empathy. She is very cruel and harsh. But indeed, her true nature of all the loveliness comes out when she had to look after Maggi, the crippled child. At first, she disliked Maggie but as the days passed by, she was so attached to her and her true nature come out. She starts loving Maggie and takes care of her very well.
