Answer:

By contrast, most deserts have relatively stable temperatures that do not fluctuate much through the year. Additionally, the photoperiod, or the amount of light in a day, fluctuates widely in the arctic -- the summers feature nearly constant sunshine, while the winters are almost completely dark.

Explanation:

Extreme climates require moderate adaptations. This is less contradictive than the words might imply, because evolution and adaptation do not DO extremes! Animals in the Arctic generally use the simple expedient of taking to the water, which is, of course, warmer that the ice which is in turn warmer than the sub-zero air! Polar bears and seals have a layer of fat for insulation, and polar bears’ skin is actually black, to absorb as much warmth as possible or radiate it away, when necessary. Antarctic life is ALL aquatic, although Penguins spend their egg-brooding periods ashore. Again with the insulating layers of fat.

Desert life is mostly small and nocturnal, although there are many more types of desert than the Sahara or the Khakarri. Here the most significant adaptation is water-usage and diet; large desert animals make the most out of meager desert plants, and the camelid family members (Arabian & Bactrian camels and South American llamas, vicunia, etc.) are all, in fact. well-adapted for arid regions. None are particularly threatened by the small desert predators.
