The four fundamental (original) literary genres are

• poetry,

• fiction,

• non-fiction,

• and drama, with each fluctuating in style, structure, topic, and the utilization of allegorical language

However, if we consider the 21st century;

Literary genres can be categorized into 8 different types:

• Poetry-  Uses carefully chosen language as well as figures of speech to create a mood or feeling.
• Fiction-  Includes any writing that an author makes up from his or her imagination.
• Fantasy-  Usually tells about magic, superstition, and incredible worlds that could not exist in real life. Also, everyday people or animals are in unbelievable situations.
• Science Fiction-  Uses science or technology to create an extraordinary but believable story.
• Mystery- This is a story based on a strange crime, such as a missing object, or the death of a person, or a suspicious disappearance
• Biography-  Is an account of a person's life written by someone else. The writer interviews the subject, as well as his family, friends, and associates, and then the writer writes about the subject, the subject's life, and accomplishments.
• Drama-  Consists of plays or skits that are meant to be performed on a stage in front of an audience.
• Non-fiction-  Includes diaries, essays, and histories as well as biographies and autobiographies.
