Somewhere the situation faced by coachman Ali and the postmaster was same because they both faced the pain of their daughter who got married and lives far away from them Ali visits the post office daily to get his daughter's letter. And when finally the letter came he's no more.

Ali displays qualities of love and patience. Ali was completely different in his young days when he was a hunter. His life turned upside down the day his daughter left him after her marriage. He gave up hunting as he could not bear the terror of separating young partridges from their parents. He would go to the post office everyday in the morning at 4 and stay there till the evening waiting for his daughter's letter. Patience, love for his daughter and faith in the divine kept him warm in the bitter cold. Despite five years passing by he still awaited the letter and did not lose hope. This shows his reformed character full of love and patience
The post master was an ill-tempered man who cared the least about any other person's life and plight. He was very impatient and emotionless. He was not at all compassionate towards any body in need and paid no heed to any one. He was a very ruthless and practical man. However, his character saw a drastic change when he too became anxious of not receiving any news from his ill daughter. He deeply felt the suffering of Ali and realised the affection a father could have for his daughter.
