Mr. Griffin and Dr. Kemp were brilliant scientists and good acquaintances. In this story Dr. Kemp stays busy all day in his research, and in is shown as a man of science. He's also shown as a soul of great kindness and nobility. Kemp is a responsible man who is respectful of the law and he likes to be idealistic and non-interfering. When the stranger in his hometown is told, he displays lack of concern and blinds himself to the odd events around him. Nonetheless, when the incidents happens in his room in his presence, Dr. Kemp decided to get Griffin caught. Griffin wanted the reign of terror to be created, and Dr. Kemp considered the future social conditions. He subsequently pretends to support Griffin, but he informs Colonel Adye to arrest Griffin. Dr. Kemp wanted to capture Griffin after realising Griffin was a threat to society. While Griffin lied, Dr. Kemp thought of society's progress. He decided to save the society from Griffin's. He puts his own life at risk so he can save the nation from falling into the trap of the evil Griffin. In short, he prefers humanity to his friendship
On the other hand, Thomas Marvel is an alcoholic who is completely dependent on charity to survive. He's short, fat, and hideous. Twice or thrice, he had no desire to deceive Griffin, but he was also compelled to do so. Since he was tempted to benefit from Griffin's eternal invisibility, he agreed to follow him. Marvel gave an impression that of a tramp –the charity boots, the shabby hat, his homeless lifestyle, and his clothes. He does everything in a laid back manner implying that he was a lazy person. Marvel truly seen as an opportunist in the novel. After the death of Griffin. He is now the owner of Griffin's three books that record his stolen research and cash. Marvel opens an inn and names it The Invisible Man quite shrewdly. He tells stories concerning Griffin and therefore gets more and more customers. Unknown to others, he hides Griffin's secret formula books and looks at them excitedly in secret. Marvel tries to decipher the notes hoping that one day he would recreate Griffin's work. However, since many pages were inadvertently washed away during the chase of Griffin by Marvel and the balance notes of Griffin are coded in Latin and Greek, Marvel is totally incapable of comprehending them .
