Roadways: merits: 1.door to door service 2. Peovide basic transport for railways etc. Demerits:1. can travel only short distance 2. Most roads being unmetalled gets damaged during rainy season 3. Traffic, narrow bridges etc. Railways: merits: 1.travels long distance in short time 2. Can carry alot of people along with goods. 3. Multi function activities can be done like sightseeing business and piligrimage Dermerits: 1. Ticketless travel 2.costly to construct and maintain 3. Theif and pulling chain without reason leads to delay of train

Merits of road Transport are:



(i) Roads need less capital than the railways.



(ii) Road transport provides door-to-door service.



(iii) The road transport provides flexible service to men   and materials.



(iv) Road transport is useful in small distances.



(v) Road transport is helpful in production of  perishable goods as it facilitates the distribution of  perishable goods from point of production to point  of consumption.




(vi) Roads can negotiable higher gradients of slopes  and as such can traverse mountains such as the  Himalayas.
