Lok Sabha has twice the powers of Rajya Sabha. Some powers of both the Sabhas are as follows:
Lok Sabha:
# Only a speaker from the Lok Sabha can introduce a money or finance bill.
# If a Parliament sitting is initiated with participants from both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, then the proceedings are conducted by the Lok Sabha speaker.
# The Lok Sabha can be dissolved before or after a National Emergency has been declared.
# A motion of no confidence can be introduced and passed by the Lok Sabha against the government.
Rajya Sabha:
# Members can ask Ministers questions to gain an awareness of the Government’s actions and make resolutions accordingly.
# Some elected members participate in electing the President and all members contribute towards selecting the Vice President.
Both the Sabhas have equal power with respect to issues such as:
# Initiating and passing bills for Constitutional Amendment
# Initiating and passing a move for impeachment of the President and judges of the Supreme Court and state courts.
