Compare and contrast the respiratory system of Chondrichthyes to that of Osteichthyes.

The gills of Osteichthyes are situated on the side of the skull. They only have three pairs of gills. The gills of Osteichthyes are guarded by a bone called operculum. On the other side, Chondrichthyans have five to seven pairs of gills.
