Explanation:

Database design, according to Connolly and Begg, contain three phases which are conceptual, logical, and physical. Conceptual design is the process of designing a database without any physical implementations. In this phase, there is no thought of hardware, software, or any physical entities, it is more of the thought process of the design, and is a model, but it is necessary as it helps to aid in the next design phase which is the logical design. Logical design takes the conceptual model, again with no physical entities represented, but with the knowledge of the DBMS that is going to be used. It takes the data from the conceptual model and normalizes the data and tests the data for accuracy. The physical database design takes logical design and adds the DBMS assigned for the enterprise, and actually designsthe physical layout of the system including creating tables, relationships and constraints, to setting security protocols. So, the three design phases work hand in hand with one another, so that the DBMS starts from a concept to a physical design, before actual implementation.
