I sincerely hope you tried to ask something different such as “What is the difference between Qualcomm and MediaTek”.

Nevertheless, here I have brought for you a few important points of differences between MediaTek and Snapdragon which you ought to know:

Origin & History:

Snapdragon: Snapdragon is a chipset series rollout by the organization named Qualcomm which was established at San Diego in 1985. Some of the major rollouts from Qualcomm are Snapdragon 200, 400 series, 600 series, and 800 series etc.

MediaTek: MediaTek is a chipset production organization that took birth in 1997 at Hsinchu. Some of the prominent roll-outs from MediaTek are Helio X20 series and MT6752 series etc.

ARM Architecture:

Snapdragon: Qualcomm designs its own CPUs which are 64-bit Kryo core and 32-bit Krait core. These are either customized or semi-customized ARM CPUs based on ARM which have been enhanced for their performance.

MediaTek: MediaTek, on the other hand, employs standard ARM architecture for the processors. Importantly, unlike Snapdragon, the specifications and the standards in MediaTek SoCs are not modified much with regards to the ARM Architecture.

The GPUs:

Snapdragon: The GPUs or the Graphics Processing Unit in Qualcomm are designed in-house and the series is known as Adreno.

MediaTek: The GPUs in MediaTek chipsets are from ARM Holdings- A Mali Brand.

Performance:

Snapdragon: In terms of performance, Snapdragon was a market ruler initially. However, the chipsets experienced a considerable amount of heating and they were a battery-drainer too. Besides, most of those currently in the market are extremely slow.

MediaTek: MediaTek chipsets too experienced a great bit of heating initially. However, with the newest and the most advanced roll-outs in the MediaTek P series, the heating effects have been resolved considerably and they are extremely rapid in their performance.

Power Consumption:

Snapdragon: Snapdragon processors do not consume much power. However, the heating is something really grave which disdains the battery life.

MediaTek: MediaTek processors initially consumed a lot of battery. However, the troubles have been resolved to a great extent. Besides, the smartphones nowadays come with a quality battery power and hence you do not experience much of battery troubles.

Production Cost:

Snapdragon: Most of the Snapdragon chipsets are costly and they are only found in the high-range smartphones.

MediaTek: MediaTek chipsets are far less cheap than the Snapdragon chipsets and are found in most of the budget phones. Besides, some of the new and high-quality chipsets are a part of some high-range smartphones as well.

These are some of the points of differences between MediaTek and Snapdragon which you wished to know.

So, Which One Is Actually Better?

Whether you consider the performance of the smartphone or its cost, I think MediaTek always has an edge over the Snapdragon processor and there are reasons for it.

Nowadays, most of the people would look to buy a budget phone of around 10k to 15k and at this cost though you can get a phone with reasonably good MediaTek processor but not with a Snapdragon processor. If at all you get, either the price of the smartphone would be too high or it would be utterly slow in its working.

So in my opinion, MediaTek is actually a better call in terms of smartphone processors and you should go for the phones that are equipped with this.
