Fungi, worms, and bacteria are all examples. The dead stuff they eat is called detritus, which means garbage. Decomposers return nutrients to the soil from dead plants and animals that they break down.

“Carnivores” get their energy from other animals that they eat. The word carnivore is derived from Latin and means meat eater. Wild cats, such as lions and tigers, are examples of vertebrate carnivores, as are snakes and sharks, while invertebrate carnivores include sea stars, spiders, and ladybugs.
