- when breakdown of glucose takes place in absence of oxygen then 2 ATP energy with lactic acid is formed.
- when oxygen is available then the pyruvate is used in mitochondria of cell. when oxygen is not available then the pyruvate is used in muscle cells. That's why cramps in muscles occurs.
