Located in Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh is known as the ‘Land of high passes’. With picturesque mountains and valleys, its culture and history are closely related to that of Tibet. Trade routes passing through Ladakh made it an important trading point in the past, until China closed the border with Tibet. Now tourism is the main industry of Ladakh. Barley and wheat are grown, aided by irrigation using water from snow and ice.

Leh and Kargil are two important towns of Ladakh.

Kerala is located in the southwestern part of India and Thiruvananthapuram is its capital. Malayalam is the language and Kerala boasts of 94% literacy rate. It has a combination of Aryan, Dravidian culture, with the major religion being Hinduism.

With a large population from Kerala working abroad, the economy depends on remittance from these expatriates to a large extent. Agriculture and fisheries also contribute to the exchequer.
