Answer:

Comparison of metal and nonmetal on the basis of their chemical properties:

There are different materials that we come across in our daily life but mostly all of them are either metal or non metal or something related to the two.

The differences between the two are are as follows:-

1) Displacement of hydrogen is noticed on reaction with dilute acids only in case of metals and not in case of non metals.

2) Electro-negativity is the nature observed by nonmetals while electro-positivity is the nature observed by metals.

3) Formation of oxides of metals takes place when they react with oxygen but in case of non metals certain acidic or neutral oxide is found as result.

WATER..

Metal reacts with oxygen to form metal oxide. When metals reacts with water it form metal hydroxide or oxide. Metal reacts with diluted acids to form metal salts and hydrogen gas.... non- metals reacts with oxygen to form non metal oxide..

Bases..

Non metallic oxide react with bases to give salts and water. Here metal in base reacts with carbon dioxide to form salt. Hydrogen adds with oxygen in non metal oxide to form water. This is similar to neutralization reaction. So non metallic oxides are acidic in nature..
