Reversible Process

The process is carried out infinitesimally slowly so that all changes occurring in the direction process an be exactly reversed and the system reamins almost in a state of a equilibrium with the surrounding at every stage of the process.

It takes infinite time for completion.

It is only imaginary and cannot be achieved in actual practice.

Work obtained in this process is maximum.

Irreversible process

This process is not carried out infinitesimally slowly but it is carried out rapidly so that the successive steps of the direct process cannot be retracted and any change in the external conditions disturbs the equilibrium and the equilibrium may only exist after the completion of the process.

It takes finite time for completion.

These process actually occur in nature.

Work obtained in this process is not maximum.
