Ashoka (268 to 232 BC) was a great Indian king of the Mauryan Dynasty.

Life Before transformation

He fought many wars in his early life, mainly to expand his kingdom and manifest his power. He was a tyrant ruler.

Transformation

One such great battle, fought at Kalinga brought about his transformation. The battle scene after the war, was heart breaking to the king. But he was surprised to a see a Buddhist monk who walked the battle scene, unaffected. This led to his transformation.
