In Subject centred approach, the curriculum is framed on the basis of the subject.  Here certain subjects are selected by the school and curriculum will be framed on the knowledge and the skills that the child will acquire during the course of study.

“Competency-based approach” are the ones framed by the institution in which they would like to specialise.  For example, if a child wants to enter Business field, then, he should do MBA.

In Subject centred: 1) A child will get to study all the major subjects which would help him to choose his area of interest.  Example, science, math etc.  Curriculum will be framed according to the age level

Disadvantage: A child has to learn all the subjects whether he is interested or not.  He cannot decide on the subject that would help to focus for his future.

Competency approach – A child cannot decide or specialise in his area of interest till he completes his ten plus years of schooling.  Not all the specialized institutions give hands on experience in the subject they are specializing
