Acceptance angle of skew rays:
The acceptance angle of skew rays is:
where
γ = The angle between the projection of the ray in two dimensions and the radius of the fiber core at the point of reflection.
θas = Acceptance angle of skew rays
NA = Numerical aperture of the fiber
The acceptance angle of skew rays is greater than the acceptance angle of meridional rays because skew rays are accepted at larger axial angles in fiber. In fact, for meridional rays cos γ is equal to unity and θas becomes θa. Thus θa is the minimum angle foe skew rays. Larger the acceptance angle, larger will be numerical aperture.
