Multi purpose river valley projects have multiple purposes, 1 Water storage and supply is maintained through the year and replenished by rainfall, runoff, and snow melt. 2 Irrigation canals are maintained and replenish through the storage system, so it's good for agricultural purpose. 3 Water is a renewable source of energy it's non pollutant for producing cheap electricity. 4Water thus stored can be utilised for afforestation and fisheries. Electricity thus produced can be taken upto 300 miles away from the dam.hence large cities like Delhi get cheap power from tehri and bhakhra dams. Hoover dam supplies cheap power to Las Vegas city in the U.S.A. 5 Beautiful parks and gardens can be made around dams like the vrindavan gardens around mysuru near sivasamudrum dam in karnataka. I'm sure that, s why we call them multi purpose dams.
