Step-by-step explanation:

Rectangle - length (l) = 14 1/2 m = 29/2 m

breadth = 8 1/2 m = 17/2 m

( To convert mixed fraction into improper fraction - Multiply the denominator with the whole number and add with the numerator - write this answer as the numerator and the denominator will remain same - example 14 1/2 = 14x2+1/2 = 28+1/2 = 29/2)

Area of rectangle = length x breadth = 29/2 x 17/2

= 29 x 17/ 2 x 2 = 493/4 square metres or

123 1/4 square metres (mixed fraction)

123 one fourth square metres

Square - Side = 10 3/4 m = 43/4 m

Area of square = (side x side) = 43/4 x 43/4

43x43/ 4x4 = 1849/16 square metres

115 9/16 square metres (mixed fraction)

Difference = 493/4 - 1849/16

= 493x4/4x4 - 1849/16 (LCM of denominator to subtract)

= 1972/16 - 1849/16 = 123/16 square metres

Area of rectangle is greater by 123/16 square metres.

I hope it helps.
