We have to know , after gain of electron the inter electronic repulsion between every electrons increases , which cause the increase in separation between electrons and effectively increase the atomic size of ion .

Same thing happen with Cl atom gain an electron and total number of electron in the outermost shell increases and atomic size increase due to the repulsion of electrons .
