The Bengal famine of 1905 was believed to be caused by adverse weather conditions.It all began with the failure of the monsoon winds over the west and central India.By July 1900,most of the provinces population was suffering a sort of famine relief or the other.
Typically in 1943,Bengal famine was caused by a number of reasons but the major reason was the shortage in rice which was accompanied by a series of other factors.These causes have been termed as man made asserting the wartime colonial policies.
The Bengal famines had impact on the life and property of the Indians in that;
- Many Indians lost their lives-Around 3 to 4 million Indians died due to starvation and famine related diseases.
- Rise of famine related disease-These included diseases such as malnutrition.
- The famine left most of the Indians landless as a result of land grabbing.
- Moreover it led to loss and misuse of their property.
