The rod of copper plate should be connected to the positive terminal of the battery. Because when electric current is passed through the copper sulphate solution, it dissociates into copper and sulphate. The free copper drawn to the negative terminal of the battery gets deposited on it. On the other hand the loss of copper from the solution would be regained from the impure copper rod which is connected to the positive terminal of the battery.

Answer:

Distilled water is a poor conductor of electricity because it does not contain any dissolved salts in it. Tap water is a conductor of electricity because it has some ions namely sodium and potassium ions. Seawater is a good conductor of electricity because it is a rich source of sodium ions.
