A server operating system is also known as a server OS. It is specifically designed to run on servers. These servers are customized computers which function within a client or server architecture. They fulfil the requests of the network's client computers.

Linux and Windows are Operating systems which differ in their functionality. Linux is like a Unix system developed as a open source software. Microsoft Windows comprises a series of graphical interfaces marketed by Microsoft.

Linux is distributed freely while Windows has to be bought.

Microsoft Windows and Linux are two operating systems. Their differences are as follows:-

1) The first version of Linux was Version 0.01 while the first version of Windows was Windows 1.0.

2) Linux combined with GNU system to produce a complete free operating system whereas Windows OS is neither open source nor free OS and is the property of Microsoft company.

3) Linux can be installed on a wide variety of computer hardware ranging from mobile phones, tablets and computers to mainframes and supercomputers. Windows Os can be installed only on PC's servers and some phones.
