Characteristics of upper course and lower course of a river.

Explanation:

  • Gradient of land - upper course of the river includes steep-sided V-shaped valleys , interlocking spurs, waterfalls, rapids and gorges.
  • While lower course of river includes flat bottomed valleys , flood plains and deltas.
  • Volume of water- in the upper course there is low amount of water ,large rocks make the bed load very rough, while in the lower course, there is vast amount of water .
  • Type of river bed- river bed is very narrow and shallow in the upper course , while river bed is wide in lower course.
