\huge\underline  {\sf {Answer:}}

\underline  {\bold {Given:}}

  • Two rational numbers \dfrac {3}{-4} and \dfrac {-1}{2}

\underline  {\bold {Find:}}

  • Which rational number is greater.

\underline  {\bold {Solution:}}

We know that,

  • To compare any two rational numbers , there denominator must be same.

So,

  • Let's take factors of the denominators .
  • On factorisation, the common factor is 4.

Now,

  • Make the denominators same, that is

= \dfrac {-3}{4}

= \dfrac {-2}{4}

\dag On Comparing the values :

\dfrac {-3}{4} ( < ) \dfrac {-2}{4}

Do remind

  • In negative values , the one which is small like \dfrac {-2}{4} is considered bigger .

Thus, on comparing rational number -1/2 is greater then 3/-4.
