Intermolecular forces are the forces between two molecules of a given substance.

In solids the intermolecular forces are are very high which results in them being solid.

In liquids the intermolecular forces are comparatively lower than solids due to which they have a fluid state.

Lastly the the gases have the lowest intermolecular forces which enables them to scatter everywhere.

Kinetic energy is inversely proportional to intermolecular forces.

Which means gases have the highest kinetic energy as they are free to move everywhere and solids have the lowest kinetic energy as there is no motion between the molecules of solids.
