Compare the national movement in India and Nigeria. Can you explain why it was stronger in India?
Answers
A segment of western educated philosophers originated the idea of a popular Nigerian nation and commenced to fight against British rule. to fight against the British rule, Herbert Macaulay organized the Nigerian National Democratic Party. He also aids the militant attacks on the colonial government. The backbone of the nationalist movement in India was the Nigerian soldiers.
India also fought against the British rule. The main difference between the nationalist movement of Ni-geria and India is that while Nigeria fought the British with some violence, India adopted the policy of non-violence and non-cooperation under its leader, M.K. Gandhi. The main reason for why the nation-alist struggle in India was stronger than Nigeria is that, in India, all the groups of society was involved in the struggle whereas, only soldiers were fighting against the British rule in Nigeria.
