The provincial executives in Province 2 and 7 presented policies and programmes on Wednesday for the remaining three months of fiscal year 2017/18. Both the governments have prioritised the use of local resources and develop infrastructure.

Governor of Province 2 Rataneshwar Lal Kayastha presented the policies and programmes at the assembly meeting in Janakpur. The 60-point policies and programmes have accorded high priority to the agriculture, road and health sectors. The government included various programmes on irrigation and providing training on using fertilizer, insecticide, improved seeds. It also plans to set up dairy industry, food processing industry and fishery. The provincial government’s policy says it would work together with the federal government for the construction of Koshi and Kamala diversion irrigation projects.

The government in Province 2 further plans to take initiatives to revive the sick industries like Birgunj Sugar Mill, Janakpur Cigarette Factory, Agricultural Tools Factory, among others. Its policy is aimed at creating a conducive environment for investment by controlling extortions and strikes in the province.

The policies and programmes of Province 2 also focus on education to girl child, control foetus killing, safe motherhood among others, with the government’s assurance of necessary laws and regulations for the purpose. In Province 7, provincial chief Mohan Raj Malla presented the policies and programmes that emphasise on hydropower, herbs and forests. Its programmes also include development of tourism infrastructure and bring about major reforms in the health and education sectors. The Province 7 government plans to launch various campaigns like One Person, One Bank Account; Ghar Ghar ma Ujyalo (Light in every house), among others. Its policies and programmes also aim to set up more food depots in hill districts, develop integrated settlement, establish open university in the province. The government has also assured that it would step up security to check smuggling along the Nepal-India border and maintain good governance. It has also proposed to manage a toll-free number in each ministry to listen to complaints from the service seeker
