Compare the power used in the 2 resistor in each of the following circuits:
(1) a 6V battery in series with 1ohm and 2ohm resistors, and (11) a 4 V battery in parallel
with 12ohm

Answer:

formula to find power consumed is P = V^2 /R

Step-by-step explanation:

(i) Given,

potential difference (V) = 6V

resistance1 (R1) = 1 ohm

resistance2 (R2) = 2ohm.

A/Q,

total resistance = R2 + R1

total resistance = 2 + 1

total resistance = 3ohm.

therefore, power consumed is 6V ^2 / 3ohm = 36/3 = 12watt.

(ii) given,

V = 4V

R1 = 12ohm

R2 = 2ohm.

A/Q,

1/total resistance = 1/R1 + 1/R2

= 1/12 +1/ 2

= 1+6/12

= 7/12

P = V^2/R

= 4^2/ 7/ 12

= 16×12/7

= 192/7

= 27.4ohm.
