7:8 and 5:12

.....7×12=8×5
84 = 40
hence they are unequal.

5:12=5/12
now,
LCM of 8 and 12 = 24
now,
$\frac{7}{8} = \frac{7 \times 3}{8 \times 3} = \frac{21}{24}$
and,
$\frac{5}{12 } = \frac{5 \times 2}{12 \times 2} = \frac{10}{24}$
so,
$here \: \frac{21}{24} > \frac{10}{24}$
so, 7/8 is greater than 5/12
