Answer:

"The Last Leaf" and "The Gift of the Magi" these two stories are similar in the sense that they carry O Henry's trademark including poor, working class, character, a humorous tone, realistic detail and a surprise and twist ending. The basic theme of “The both stories” by O Henry is that it is better to give than to receive. "The Last Leaf" is a rather sardonic tragedy, In my opinion, the message lying behind last leaf’s short story, message that comes through most powerfully is that you should not judge people by their outward appearances and "The Gift of the Magi" is more of a touching tale of a couple's love. The last Leaf does have a moral of unappreciated love or effort, and Magi has a very blatant theme of sacrifice and love. The stories even have a different feel to them. Both stories deal with love and sacrifices, two aspects of both stories run together that are sacrifice and love, which are shown in the gloomy atmosphere of poverty O’Henry in the very first lines of the “the gift of the magi “has solved the mystery about the key motives of this economic status “one dollar and eighty seven cents” the poor condition of their flat with a useless letter box, an electric bell which didn’t work and a name plate “Mr. James Dillingham young” looked blurred and showed their financially low situation as well but poor Della and Jim was trying to cope with it. This poverty led the story to the conflict that neither of the two had enough money to buy each other a gift.
